L1F Zoysia is about to change the game of golf in a big way—as one of the first-ever commercially available, low-maintenance zoysiagrasses fine textured enough to be planted on golf course greens. What this means is L1F may now be used on virtually every playing surface, from tee to green, reducing inputs and streamlining maintenance programs for the golf course superintendent.
ORLANDO, FL, February 5, 2014: L1F Zoysia is about to change the game of golf in a big way—as one of the first-ever commercially available, low-maintenance zoysiagrasses fine textured enough to be planted on golf course greens, it was announced today at the Golf Industry Show in Orlando, the annual gathering of some 15,000 golf course superintendents, architects, owners, builders and other golf industry professionals. What this announcement means is L1F may now be used on virtually every playing surface, from tee to green, reducing inputs and streamlining maintenance programs for golf course superintendents.
L1F is an extremely fine-textured zoysiagrass that requires very low water and very low fertilizer inputs. The grass has been under development for 15 years and has undergone rigorous testing protocols in national trials. It was also planted on test greens at Atlanta Athletic Club in Georgia and on two golf courses in Texas, Briggs Ranch and Escondido Golf Club.
L1F will be planted this April on all 18 greens at The Golf Club of Texas in San Antonio.
According to David Doguet, renowned zoysiagrass breeder and owner of Bladerunner Farms, the development of L1F for greens use is just the natural progression of the golf industry toward expanded use of zoysia on playing surfaces.
“For greens, we are moving toward less cost to maintain greens while also creating high-quality playing surfaces. Using a grass like L1F Zoysia, it will take less to have a high-quality green,” Doguet said.
L1F was developed in Poteet, Texas, by Bladerunner Farms, the world’s largest independently owned zoysiagrass breeding and research
facility. L1F is licensed for certified sod production east of the Mississippi by The Turfgrass Group, west of Mississippi by Doguet Ventures, and internationally by Team Zoysia International.
