Carolina Panthers’ Coach Not a Fan of Artificial Turf

As reported in yesterday’s online edition of the Charlotte News Observer, the coach of the Carolina Panthers, Ron Rivera, prefers natural turfgrass to artificial turf. He indicated that the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium may have been at least partially to blame for some of his players’ foot injuries in last week’s game against the New York Jets. An earlier news article in the News Observer had reported that safety Demitrious Cox attributed his injury in the Panthers’ game against the Patriots to the stadium’s new artificial turf. Coach Rivera is quoted as recently saying, ““We’re fortunate. We practice on grass, we play on grass. And there’s a big difference, there really is.”
