In 2012, the Tifway 419 surface of Robert F. Kennedy Stadium (RFK) in Washington, D.C. was regrassed with TifGrand Bermudagrass. For Willie Leak, the field renovation was just one of the iconic stadium’s many milestones that he has witnessed during his 50-year career of maintaining RFK’s playing surface.
The January 2014 issue of SportsTurf magazine chronicled the stadium’s history, Leak’s contributions to the field quality and the reasons why shade- and wear-tolerant TifGrand was chosen as the field’s new surface.
